Girls Highlights:

  • Jordan Daywalt of Statesville cleared 11-6 in the PV. This vault meets the National Elite Cutoff for Dyestat.com. She is tied for 4th in the state with her winning vault.
  • Laura Langley of Southern Nash cleared 5-8 just missing the 3A state record by 1/4 of an inch. She is tied for 2nd in the state with her clearance.
  • Vicki Mitchell of West Craven threw 124-10 in the discus and won by over 16 feet. She was only 3 feet away from the 3A state record.
  • The shot put competition looked to be an incredible competition. Courtney Prichard of Havelock and Haley Hackett of Southeast Guilford both threw 36-11.00. The win was earned by Prichard because she had the next furthest throw fo the two. 5 girls threw over 36' in this tight competition.
  • Kiara Crutchfield of Ragsdale won the LJ with a jump of 18-5. Not far behind her was West Craven's Kayla Jackson. Both girls are ranked top 10 in the state of North Carolina.
  • The triple jump proved to be a great competition, too. Radiance Basden of Western Guilford jumped 38-10.50 to win by 2 inches over TW Andrews' Dekalah Price. They are currently ranked 2nd and 3rd in the state.
  • WOW! The girl's 4x800 looked like an incredible race. I didn't look back at results, but I'd have to guess this is one of the fastest and most competitive 4x800's in 3A state meet history. 6 teams broke 10:00 with 5 teams under 9:45. Sun Valley defeated TC Roberson by 2 seconds to claim the victory - 9:30.78 to 9:32.42. Sun Valley, TC Roberson, Jacksonville, White Oak, & Charlotte Catholic ran the 5 fastest times in NC. Sun Valley missed the 3A state record by about half a second.
  • Stormy Kendrick ran the fastest 100m times in the prelims and the finals. Her time of 12.14 in the finals won by over 2 tenths of a second. Her time of 12.07 in the prelims was her fastest time of the season. She is ranked 9th in the state.
  • Kelsey McCorkle of South Central won both the 200 and 400. Last year she set a new meet record in the 100m but I guess she chose to move up in distance. She won with quick times of 24.79 in the 200 and 56.60 in the 400.
  • Brandy Swann of Jacksonville won the 800 with a time of 2:17.14 which leads the state of NC. She was about 1 second off the meet record but will have another year to pursue that mark as she is a junior. Jordan Gaddy of Enka ran 2:18.38 which ranks her 3rd in the state.
  • Ryanna Henderson of Jacksonville ran 5:14.67 to win the 1600 in a tight race. Asheville's Cara Hayes was about 1 second back and Caroline Kirby of Roberson ran 5:17. Henderson's time ranks her 6th in the state this season.
  • Kirby came back after her 3rd place to claim te title in the 3200 with a time of 11:33.33. Her time ranks her 8th in NC this season.
  • Sophia Treakle of Asheville doubled up in the hurdle events as she won the 100H and the 300H. She edged out Bedingfield's Latoya Farmer in the 100H by 3 hundredths of a second, 14.90 to 14.93. She also won by a slight margin in the 300H, 44.67 to Radiance Baden's 44.79. She is ranked 10th in the 100H and 3rd in the 300H across the entire state.
  • Northeast Guilford blasted their way to a state leading time of 1:42.49 in the 4x200m relay. Not to be left out, Dudley and White Oak also went under the 1:44.00 mark. They are ranked 3rd and 4th in the state with only Harding (4A) splitting up these teams.
  • Parkland's girls ran 49.25 to win the 4x100 relay. On paper it looks like it was a very exciting race with the top 3 schools within 14 hundredths of a second. Parkland's time moves them into 6th in NC this outdoor season.
  • The final event of the meet saw a very strong relay running squad from Dudley win the 4x400 with an impressive time of 4:01.30. Their time is 2nd in NC this season. Northeast Guilford also ran under 4:05 with a time of 4:04.43.

Boys Highlights:

  • Union Pines' Derrick Ross won the HJ with an impressive 6-8. His jump keeps him tied for 2nd in the state.
  • Ryan Oakes of White Oak defended his indoor title in the pole vault by clearing 15 feet. It was a foot higher than 2nd place, Zach Smith of Ragsdale. His vault makes his the 3rd athlete to clear 15 or higher this outdoor season.
  • In a tight competition, Jake Deaton of Moorseville won the discus by about 2 feet. He threw 143-05 to Jason Roberts of SE Guilford's 141-07.
  • The shot put was won by Roberts with a find throw of 54-6.50. In a impressive competition, 7 athletes threw over 50'. The 3A shot put is a tough event to place.
  • The long jump was very close, as the top 4 individuals were only separated by 5 inches. Emmanual Davis of Overhills HS won with a jump of 22-6 while Isaiah Thompson of Asheville was 2nd only 1 inch back.
  • Jamel Allison of Mooresville jumped way out to past 48 to claim the victory in the TJ. He jumped 48-2.50, 2 feet better than 2nd place. His jump carries him to 2nd in North Carolina this season.
  • Franklin HS went under 8:00 and became the first team to accomplish that this season. They missed the 3A meet record by about 3 seconds. 3 other teams cracked 8:10.
  • TW Andrews led the way in the 4x200 with a 1:28.06 clocking. Almost 1 second better than 2nd place. 5 teams broke 1:30 and every team that scored was under 1:31. Their time ranks them 5th in the state this year.
  • Carver's strong sprinting squad ran 41.80 to win the 4x100. Their time ranks them 3rd in North Carolina this season.
  • Nash Central and Dudley were only separated by about 1.5 seconds in the 4x400. Nash Central won the event with a 3:21.46 clocking. That time is the 4th fastest time run in NC this season.
  • Bryce Sherman won both the 100 and 200 for Carver HS. He clocked a very impressive 10.51 in the 100 and a 21.43 in the 200. Both times rank him 3rd in the state in each of those events.
  • Asheboro's Mike Eddy was the sole athlete to crack the 49 second mark in the 400. He ran 48.97 to win the 400 by over half a second. He is ranked 7th in the state this season.
  • Michael Allen of Ragsdale was the sole sub 2:00 runner in the 800 meters. He ran 1:58.72 to earn 10 pts. for his team.
  • The word on the street is that Ryan Hill sat back and did some kicking in both the 1600 and the 3200. He won the 1600 with a time of 4:24.60 and the 3200 in 9:24.87. Andrew North of Asheville was 2nd in the 1600 and Johnathan Sunde ran 9:30 in the for 2nd in the 3200.
  • Charles Lindsay doubled up in the hurdle events. He won the 110H with an impressive time of 14.04. That is the 7th fastest time in NC. He then broke 39 in the 300H to win in 38.55. He held off Travis Pringles of Nash Central by 13 hundredths of a second.
