Girls Highlights:

  • Jania Bogle of Princeton led the way in the prelims and the finals of the 100m dash. She clocked a 12.35 to win the 100 by about 2 tenths of a second. She also won the 200m dash with a 25.99 in the prelims. However the fastest time of the day was by Tiffany Mullin from Topsail in the prelims, 25.68.
  • Chelsea Mudd of South Stokes won the 400 with a time of 1:01.11. Close behind in 1:01.30 was Emily Morris of West Montgomery.
  • Tara Lindeman ran away from the field in the 800m run. She clocked a very impressive 2:20.83 which is one of the top 10 times in the state. Most impressive, it was about a 10 second improvement.
  • Anna Hayes of East Wilkes won the 1600 with a time of 5:25.99. Heather Hofmann of Bishop ran 5:26.69 for 2nd place. These two have been battling for quite some time.
  • Jordan-Matthews' Elizabeth Humphries won the 3200 with a time of 12:03.05. She won by 18 seconds.
  • Joanna Davis of South Stokes won the 100H with a time of 16.25. It was close, as she won by 13 hundredths of a second.
  • Saresa Hudson of Pender ran 46.84 to win the 300H. 5 girls went under 48 seconds in this event.
  • Topsail won both the 4x100 and the 4x200 with impressive times. Their 50.45 was just 3 tenths of a second off the meet record. Then in the 4x200, they won by almost 2 seconds running 1:45.51.
  • Bishop McGuinness ran 4:12.66 to win the 4x400 by about 5 seconds.
  • Hayesville ran 10:08.37 to win by 8 seconds in the 4x800 over Bishop McGuinness.
  • Cherryville's Sarah Herd won the HJ competition but it came down to misses. She and Hayesville's Madeline Roberts both cleared 5-2.
  • In the pole vault, a clearance of 9-6 won the competition. Caitlin Ritchie of South Stanly won the event after only having a seeding mark of 8 feet.
  • Jasmine Young of East Columbus won the girl's LJ with a jump of 17-6.00.
  • In an upset of sorts, Joule Breedlove of Swain County jumped 38-1.25 to win the TJ. Her seeding mark was only 34-8.25. In 2nd place was Glasha Covington of Albemarle who came in as the top seed at 38-8.50. Breedlove's jump set a new 1A State Meet Record!
  • Nikia Simmons of North Stokes won the shot put with a 34-02.00 mark. She won by 2 feet and threw one and a half feet further than her seed mark.
  • Judith Dillashaw of Avery County threw 111-06 to win the discus by about 13 feet. She was the only athlete to throw over 100 feet.

Boys Highlights:

  • Jordan-Matthew's sprinter Cory Wilkerson really ran away from the field. He clocked a 10.89 to 2nd place's 11.25. He just missed the state meet record of 10.80.
  • Lamar Whidbee of Perquimans ran 22.20 to win the 200m dash. He came out of the prelims with the 5th fastest time, but that didn't stop him.
  • Trask's Raphael Nixon was the lone sole under 50 seconds in the 400. He ran 49.89 to win by almost 1 second.
  • Phillip Curley won 3 events to help his team to the team title. He won the 800 with a very solid 1:57.57, the 1600 in 4:28.65, and the 3200 in 10:21.05. In the 800, 2nd place went to a 9th grader from Polk County, John Wolfe in a very good 1:58.58.
  • Brandon Thurman Midway won the 110H in 14.74. The amazing thing . . . 14.74 was also the time for 2nd place. Lindsay Hunt of Swain County finished 2nd in an identical time.
  • Darius Little of Thomasville won the 300H with a very solid 38.85. His time missed the state meet record by 1 tenth of a second. Solid run!
  • Jordan-Matthews set 2 new State Meet Records. They ran a very quick 41.68 in the 4x100 and an equally impressive 1:28.11 in the 4x200. Their 4x100 time is 2nd best in the state this year. Their 4x200 time puts then in the top 10.
  • Dixon held off Hendersonville for the 4x400 win 3:27.11 to 3:27.94
  • NC Science and Math and Philip Curley completed the distance sweep by winning the 4x800 in 8:23.25.
  • Pamlico's Kurtis Hackney cleared 6-6 to win the HJ. His winning height was 4 inches better than his seed.
  • Josh Wilmoth of North Stokes won the PV with a clearance of 12 feet.
  • The 100m champ, Cory Wilkerson, won the LJ easily with a jump of 22-06, 9 inches better than 2nd place.
  • 45-01.25 won the TJ for Gerell Bogle of Princeton. His jump won by about a foot and a half.
  • Regis Bittle of Polk County threw 52-03.75 to win the shot put by about 5 inches. 2nd place was Ahmad Garrison of Topsail. 5 athletes threw over 50' which is extremely impressive for the 1A competition.
  • Ahmad Garrison did win the discus with a very good 159-06 mark. He won the title by 20 feet and set a new 1A State Meet Record!
