Freshman Lexi King equalled the meet and course record, clocking 18:29 to win by 32 seconds.
King's Marvin Ridge teammates had her back, too, as they put 3 more girls into the top 10 for a 28-83 win over North Lincoln.
Speaking of teammates, North Lincoln's Andrew Fea and Ryan Shannon went wire-to-wire in first and second place.
That wasn't enough to take the team win, though, as R.J. Reynolds brought in their 2-5 runners together, all in the top 15 and under 16:55, for the win.
Kayla Montgomery (Mount Tabor) continued to make her case as the best scholastic runner in North Carolina, losing by only 4 seconds to nationally-known Allie Klimkiewicz (Oakton VA).
William Roberson also had an outstanding day, finishing second in 15:39 to lead his team to the championship. (Thatnks to Brandon Miles for the photos!)
Broughton's boys crushed a strong field, winning 34-79 over McCallie School (TN) in a result that justified their attention on the national stage.
Broughton's girls finished fourth, showing that they will be a force to be reckoned with in the 4A ranks.
Mount Tabor's boys, running without #1 guy Ian Milder, still managed an impressive 5th-place finish.
Wyatt Maxey (Providence) won the boys varsity race, clocking a very fast 15:12.88 and showing that his race at McAlpine earlier this season was no fluke.
Providence put three girls into the top 5: Grace Sullivan 2nd in 18:15.97, Bianca Bishop 4th in 18:30.61, and Kayla Glova 5th in 18:35.30. The Panthers had their 4th runner in 10th place, and though they do still need to work on their depth, they earned a commanding team win, 47-77 over Tennessee power Hardin Valley.
Providence also controlled the JV girls race, going 1-2 at the front.
Tanis Baldwin (East Henderson) ran 15:19.50, good for third place overall.
Dylan Mathewson (South Caldwell), running unattached, won the race on the challenging course in 16:41, holding off Frank Cline (Robbinsville).
Anna Vess and Larissa Wood, A.C. Reynolds teammates, went 1-2 in the girls' race; Vess ran a very strong 18:56, less than 2 seconds off the course record.
Franklin's boys took the team title by putting their top 5 into the top 12 overall, with 4 of them under 17:41.
A.C. Reynolds won the girls' team title in dominating fashion, going 1-2-4-6-8 (and they were without one of their usual top 5 girls, too).
The Pinecrest boys' A team controlled the race from the start, running a combined 39:35 to miss the meet record by 11 seconds. (Thanks to Tommy DeLauney for the photo!)
West Forsyth's girls also brought home a win, clocking 48:42 to win by almost 45 seconds over Sanderson.
