The Greensboro Day senior had improved drastically over each of the last two cross country seasons.
What can you say about an athlete that ran 21:21.40 for the 5K in 2010, then dropped to 19:26.02 in 2011, and finally sped up to 18:14.0 in 2012? That amazing improvement curve belongs to Gabby Merritt, a senior at Greensboro Day School. As she says in the interview, she decided over the summer to really up her training, and surely that was in response to having such a big improvement the previous fall. Gabby plays soccer in the spring, so her track times are limited, but it seems clear that she still has untapped potential as a runner (which she plans to develop through her collegiate career).
