Freshman Alysia Johnson Running Out Of Her Mind for Hillside

We knew Alysia Johnson was going to be good.  She left Rogers-Herr Middle School with PRs of 11.92, 24.47 and 56.35 for 100, 200 and 400.

She had a strong indoor season and was in contention for a podium finish at the indoor state championships in the 55m Dash.  Johnson ran a PR in the prelims of 7.16, but missed the podium by ones spot in the finals clocking a 7.23 for 5th place.  Johnson did bounce back in the 300 and take third running 40.01.

She started off her outdoor season with a strong 100/200 double at the Durham County Championships running an NC#1 mark in both the 100 and 200.  With two PRs in her outdoor season opener of 11.88 and 24.19 it looked like Johnson was going to have a strong indoor season.  But yesterday Johnson matched up with indoor 500m state champion Maya Singletary (Hoke County).  Singletary ran the NC#2 All-Time Indoor 500 of 1:13.47 and certainly was the one to beat in the 400 this outdoor season.

The two girls battled neck and neck over the entire race, but Johnson was able to outlast Singletary running 54.10!  Singletary by no means had a bad race as she also PRed running 54.54.  These times are good for NC#1 and NC#2 and US#10 and US#15 respectively.

Johnson's mark is now NC#7 All-Times outdoors behind some pretty good names. She places just ahead of Providence Day standout, and World Junior 400mH Champion, Anna Cockrell on the All-Time list.  Not too bad of company. Just a freshman and Johnson has plenty of time left to climb this list.  But get used to the name Alysia Johnson, you're going to be hearing it a lot these next four years.
