Performances like Sean McLean's double win in 2011 have had a lasting effect on the all-time lists from the high school national championship.
North Carolina has long played host to the meet now known as New Balance Nationals Outdoors. At MileSplit, our records for the meet go back to 1997, when it was called "Foot Locker Outdoor Nationals;" in 2001 it became "Adidas Outdoor Championships," and that changed to "Nike Outdoor Nationals" in 2005 (the current name came about in 2010). The meet was originally held at NC State's Paul Derr Track, but with the switch to Nike as the title sponsor in 2005 the meet also moved to its current home, Irwin Belk Track at NC A&T. Through all those years, North Carolina athletes have made up a large percentage of the participants and have posted many memorable performances. The charts below represent the best marks by North Carolina athletes at New Balance Nationals from the MileSplit database, and you can click through to each event to see full lists. You can also click the link at the top of each chart to see MileSplit's list of the top performances nationally from the meet.
