Daniel McArthur Athlete Profile

We caught up with Mooresville 2016 graduate and current UNC All-American and ACC Champion Daniel McArthur.  McArthur threw 59-11 in the Shot Put and 175-5 in the Discus as a high school senior.  He was the 2016 NCHSAA 4A Indoor Shot Put State Champion as well as the 2016 NCHSAA 4A Outdoor Shot Put and Discus Runner-Up.

McArthur had immediate success at UNC despite moving up in implements.  As a true freshman McArthur was 4th in the ACC and had thrown further with the 16 pound shot than he did with the 12 pound shot in high school with a mark of 60-1.25.  Despite injury during his sophomore season, he came back stronger as a junior winning an ACC Indoor title in 2019 and 2020 and placing 4th at the NCAA Indoor Championships in 2019.  McArthur came in ranked 6th in the NCAA in the Shot Put this year and was in Alberquerque, New Mexico ready for the NCAA Indoor National Championship a few weeks ago before the NCAA cancelled the event as well as the 2020 Outdoor season.

McArthur will had a redshirt senior year for both Indoor and Outdoor track at UNC where he hopes to become an NCAA Champion and earn the Olympic A Standard for the now 2021 Olympic Trials.
