ACC Championships 2005

Virginia\'s McGavock Dunbar took the lead with 200 meters to go in the finals of the 800m run and held on to win his second ACC title today in Chapel Hill with a 1:52.18, helping the Cavaliers take fourth place as a team in the ACC Indoor Track and Field Championships. The fourth-place finish ties the 2005 team with the highest finish in school history, which they last achieved in 1991.

Mitch Greeley, a freshman at Clemson University earned All-ACC honors in the pole vault for the Tigers with a second place vault of 16\'4.75\" at the ACC Championships in Durham, N.C.

Virginia Tech track and field claimed two more ACC titles on the second day of the Atlantic Coast Conference indoor championships at North Carolina. \"We had an outstanding day,\" said head coach Dave Cianelli. \"Our athletes competed well in this tough and new environment. This is the boost we needed before the final day.\"

Virginia Tech\'s track & field teams completed their first-ever Atlantic Coast Conference indoor championships today at the Eddie Smith Field House on the campus of North Carolina. Tech\'s men\'s team finished in sixth place out of the 11 conference teams with 43.50 points while the Hokie women grabbed ninth with 36.50 points at the championships.

The Virginia men\'s distance medley team of Alex Tatu, Kellen Blassingame, McGavock Dunbar and Walt Kingsbery took home second place at the ACC Indoor Track and Field Championships today in Chapel Hill, NC. The foursome ran a 9:53.77, just 1.5 seconds off the ACC meet record set three years ago. David Sullivan also won silver today, clearing the pole vault with a 5.00m (16\' 4.75\"). The men\'s team stands in fifth place overall after two days of competition with 20.5 points.
