Welcome
to the 2024 Metro Conference Track and Field Championship Meet
Welcome to the campus of Southeast Guilford High School and the
2024 Metro Conference Track and Field Championship Meet. Coach Tyre and the
Southeast Guilford track and field staff are honored to host this annual event.
We hope your team has a wonderful experience today and put on the greatest performances
of their lives. To insure that the meet is run in a professional manner that
showcases the very best in track and field in North Carolina, please read the
following details and share these with your athletes prior to the meet. Please
read closely and share with your athletes, coaches, parents, and supporters.
1.There is no charge
for parking for buses and/or patrons.
2.Live Results will be
posted by Rhodes Race Timing at www.rrtiming.com.
3.When you get to Southeast, come to the entrance between the gym and
tennis courts. Drop your
athletes and coaches off in the
parking lot directly behind the home side of the stadium. Go pass
the Cultural Arts Building and when
you see the beige mobile units to your right and brick building
on the left, turn left on the road and go to
the stop sign. Take a right and park at the Baseball
Field parking area.
4.Southeast Guilford is a GOFAN School. No cash
or checks will be accepted. Credit or Debit Cards
and Apple or Google
Pay can be used to purchase tickets. (Please share this information with your
parents and
supporters.) I will put the link to purchase tickets online in email in correspondence
to
the coaches.
5.An Athletic Trainer
will be on site.
6.All implements will be inspected at the light pole across from the main
entrance. Meet
management will NOT be providing
implements.
7.All athletes participating in the Pole Vault will be weighed and have
poles verified prior to
competition. Pole Vault weigh-ins and
pole inspection will take place outside of the Lacrosse Field
House beside the pole vault area.
8.All athletes are to be in proper
uniform in accordance with the sanctioning body and rules:
National Federation (NFHS) and NCHSAA.
Note: The NFHS has made it nearly impossible to
violate the uniform rule. However,
make sure that meet officials can tell what school you are
representing
by logos, school name, school colors, etc. Athletes should not have
on any attire that
has
another sport written on it or anything unrelated to sport. EX. It doesn't have
to have track
written
on it, but it can't have Football, Cross Country, NASA Moon Landing Team etc.
The
NFHS rule book has significantly reduced the wording to reflect the
"relaxed" uniform rules.
These
are in Article 4-3 of the NFHS Rule Book. Please review this section
with your athletes if you
have
not already done so. Pay particular attention to 4-3, Article 2A that relates
to relay teams. It
states
"all relay and cross country team members must wear uniforms clearly
indicating, through
predominant
color, school logo, and color combination of all outer garments worn as a
uniform
that
members are from the same team". All coaches should have their
2024 NFHS Rule Book or have
it
downloaded to your phone on the NFHS app. The NCHSAA gave out a list of Track and Field Rule
Changes at the North Carolina Coaches
Association Clinic in July 2023. A copy will be put in your
packet or included in
your meet program.
9. The 10-minute check-in /check-out rule will
be in effect. If
an athlete is in a field event and gets a
First call for a running event, they
should check out of their field event and check-in at the Clerk's Table
and then return to the field event. Event
judges will be instructed to allow athletes to go "out of turn" if
necessary. The Clerk will be instructed
not to "hold" athletes competing in field events. It is the responsibility
of
the coach and the athlete to report to
the starting line for their event. If they are in a running event, they need to
report back to the event within 10
minutes of the conclusion of their heat. They can check-out for fifteen (15)
minutes maximum. (Five minutes prior to
the event, 10 minutes following.) Athletes competing in 2 or more field
events simultaneously will have to go "back
and forth". They will need to check-out and report immediately to
their next event. (Officials will give
them time to change shoes if the need shall arise.) Athletes cannot lose an
attempt if competing in then return to
the field event. STARTING THE
FIELD EVENTS AN HOUR BEFORE THE
RUNNING EVENTS SHOULD
MINIMIZE SOME OF THIS.
10. All protests should be filed with the Referee, on the proper "Protest/Appeal Form."
Protest forms can be picked
up at the Meet Management
table.
11. We will have a
scratch meeting as part of the coaches meeting. This is being done in case
there are enough
Scratches
that it allows the timers to reseed and eliminate a heat.
12. No headwear is to be worn during
the event, warm-ups or in the competition area. Religious headwear is not
considered a hair
device.
13. In the field events, there will be four (4) attempts; No Finals. The
Head Judge in each field event is to inspect that
all participants are in proper uniform before
competing.
14. Starting Heights:
Girls High Jump:
4'4" Girls Pole Vault: 5' 0"
Boys High Jump:
5'4"Boys Pole Vault: 7' 0"
15. In the field events, all First Flight legal throws and jumps will be
measured. Second Flight throws and
jumps will
have their first legal attempt
measured.
All other attempts must meet a minimum
mark in order to be measured. In
throws and jumps with a single
flight, the minimum standard will apply on the second attempt, or the first
successful attempt.
Boys'
Shot Put: 37'0"
Boys'
Discus 100'0"
Boys'
Long Jump: 19'0"
Boys' Triple Jump:
37'0"
Girls' Shot Put: 25'0"
Girls'
Discus Throw: 60'0"
Girls'
Long Jump: 14'0"
Girls' Triple Jump:
30'0"
16. All running events will check in at the white tent near the Pole
Vault area and receive their hip numbers. HIP
NUMBERS ARE TO BE WORN ON THE LEFT
HIP!
17. Athletes may
come on the infield to warm up once the first call is made and you have checked
in at
the tent. After finishing their competition
athletes should return to their team area. ATHLETES
WILL
NOT BE ALLOWED TO LINGER ON THE
INFIELD AFTER COMPLETING THEIR EVENT!
18. The only
people on the infield should be (1) athletes warming up after checking in (2)
meet officials
and (3) coaches. Spectators may
watch in the LJ/TJ/Pole Vault Area and the Discus Area. NO
SPECTATORS ON THE INFIELD!
19. All relay instructions will be given in
the clerking tent. Athletes will be expected to go directly
to the starting line or proper exchange zone.
20. MAKE SURE TO SCRATCH ANY ATHLETE AT THE
COACHES MEETING THAT YOU DO NOT WANT TO
COMPETE IN AN EVENT. IF AN
ATHLETE ATTEMPTS TO COMPETE IN ANOTHER EVENT AFTER NOT
COMPETING
IN AN EVENT THAT THEY WERE NOT SCRATCHED IN, THEY WILL BE DISQUALIFIED
FOR
THE MEET. Ex. I had to pull one of my athletes out of the 4 x 100
Relay at the 2017 Regionals
because
he missed the Men's Triple Jump and had not been scratched. If I had not taken him out of the
4
x 100, my relay team would have been disqualified.
21. Athletes are not to have cell phones in competition areas.
This includes field events, on the
infield,
or on the track. Meet officials and coaches of
athletes are asked to do a lot of preventive officiating
in this area.
We are looking forward to a great meet. If we can be of service to
you, please do not hesitate to call on us.
