Rocket Hokum Karem Relay 2023

Asheville, NC
Hosted by A.C. Reynolds

Meet Information

HOKUM KAREM - a relay in which two-person teams take turns running a one-mile loop, aka, a great way to get your team to run a mile repeat workout.

For this meet, coaches can choose to put teams in the varsity (3 miles per runner / 6 miles total) or JV (2 miles per runner / 4 miles total). If numbers are too big we will run a separate JV race (boys & girls combined) prior to the varsity races. Teammates will run one mile at a time and slap hands in the exchange zone after each loop.

Individuals (odd numbers or athletes not ready for multiple loops) can run with the lead-off leg of the JV race.

Scoring: We will calculate team scores using traditional cross country scoring with the top THREE relay places added up for each team, and the fourth relay for each team counted in the scoring positions and used for tie-breaking.

Schedule:

  • 8:30am - Combined JV relay (if necessary - will run JV & varsity together if numbers allow)
  • 9::15am - Boys relay (Varsity and JV start together.)
  • 10:00am - Girls varsity relay (Varsity and JV start together.)
  • 11:00am - Middle school 4-mile relay (boys & girls combined)

Entry guidelines: Please limit varsity teams to boys that can finish in under 45 minutes and girls that can finish in under 54 minutes.

"Super-Varsity" - Runners are allowed to do an (unofficial) extra loop after finishing their official race to get in a longer workout. We ask that any athletes doing this please start their extra loop from the starting-line area, and not come into the exchange/chute at the finish of the extra loop.

Course info: The course is entirely grass, with one significant hill.

Entry fee: $30 (Note:  Maximum entry fee per school for the 2022 XC season is $60 - if you run more than two meets the additional meets are free.)  No entry fee for middle school races.

Entries: Contact Coach Honea at david.honea@bcsemail.org to request a spot in the meet. Please indicate approximately how many varsity and JV relay pairs you expect to have for boys and for girls. In MileSplit entries, enter your individual names. You will be able to partner runners, and select JV or varsity, anyway you like on race day.
