Meet Information
The Mountain Island Ascent Challenge is the inaugural home meet at Mountain Island Charter School's updated trail will take place on Saturday, Oct. 15th. Unlike most trails on the High School Cross Country circuit, the MICS 3 mile trail has over 455 feet of vertical change, making it a more technically challenging trail for runners than the faster, flatter trails most are accustomed to.
The trail consist of two parts: Mountain Trail and Creekside. Runners will descend from our main stadium down into the Creekside Trail which meanders through a densely forested area. Once they emerge from the Creekside Trail loop, runners head to our Mountain Trail, another forested area with steep ascents, then back to run Creekside Trail a second time then up to the stadium to finish. It can not be stressed enough that this is NOT a flat course and will challenge the most experienced runner with its rapid ascents, meandering switchbacks and demanding flow through elevated terrain.
For HS, there will only be a varsity run for the men's and women's teams respectively. All runners for a team will run in the varsity runs. Teams should arrive, by bus preferably, by no later than 8:00a for the Men's 9:00a start. The Women's race will start at the conclusion of the Men's race.
Parking is dispersed across campus and any overflow will be directed to the MICS baseball complex where a shuttle will transport spectators to the stadium where the race both starts and finishes. Carpooling to and from the meet is requested.
We will cap the number of teams entering the meet to 7 for both the men's race and the women's race.
A map of the facilities and trail will be sent to those teams that register for the event.
