NCHSAA 1A West Regional 2019

Newton, NC
Timing/Results Big Kahuna Timing

Meet Information

*****UPDATED-Thursday, October 3rd 2:00 p.m.******
This year like last year we will be sharing/combining 1A & 2A West Regional Championships.  2A schools will compete in the morning with 1A following in the afternoon.  We are following a two-session format much like the one used at states in order to clear 2A schools out of Southside Park after the 2A session to accommodate and alleviate bus and spectator parking for the 1A session.  I would advise and encourage parents and spectators to carpool as much as possible.  We have decided on the afternoon format to accommodate travel for our schools traveling from the far west.
Southside park will offer a flat, fast racing surface and is home to the United Way/Uni-Four Invitational as well as Lenoir Rhyne University and many local high schools.  A course map has been provided below.

teams from each regional will be determined by the number of teams that participate in the

regional (i.e. 23 teams competing in regional meet x .25 = 6 teams advancing to states).
  • Top seven individual finishers NOT on a state-qualifying team will also advance to states.
  • Saturday, November 2, 2019

  • Use NC MileSplit (http://nc.milesplit.com) to enter teams into the regionals.

  • The NFHS 2019 Track & Field and Cross Country Rules Book is applicable this fall.

  • GPS devices are not permitted. Watches with GPS function are also prohibited.

Uniform Reminders:

The ultimate responsibility to have each competitor compliant with the uniform rules is with the coach. Meet officials will emphasize this at the coaches' meeting and if a coach has any questions as to the legality of their competitors' uniform, they need to have them answered before the start of the race.

Below are a few uniform rule reminders. Please refer to the 2019 NFHS Rules Book for a full explanation of the uniform rules.

NFHS Rule 4-3-1b (4-5; 7)

  • Loose-fitting, boxer-type bottoms or compression-style bottom are permitted for boys and girls. Closed-leg briefs are acceptable for girls.
  • The waistband of a competitor's bottom shall be worn above the hips.
  • A single manufacturer's logo/trademark/reference, no more than 2 square inches with no dimension more than 2 inches, is permitted on the top and bottom or one-piece uniform.
  • Any visible garment(s) worn underneath the uniform top and/or bottom is considered a foundation garment. Foundation garments are not subject to logo/trademark/reference or color restrictions.

NFHS Rule 4-3-2

  • All relay and cross country team members must wear uniforms clearly indicating, through predominant color, school logo and color combination of all outer garments worn as a uniform, that members are from the same team.

NOTE: The official should be able to observe that all members are from the same team.

OTHER RULES TO NOTE:

DO-RAGS, BANDANAS, SKULLCAPS, and HATS unless for "religious or medical reasons" are prohibited.  Headbands, if worn must be a maximum of 2 inches wide and can have a single manufacturer's logo/school mascot not exceeding 2 inches by 2 inches.

Wearable technology clarification as it relates to GPS:

NFHS rules allow the use of wearable technology, including watches.  The use of GPS function, however, is not permitted.
