WNC Polar Bear Championships/Reindeer Games 2019

Columbus, NC
Hosted by Polk County

Meet Information

The combined WNC Polar Bear Championships/Reindeer Games will be held on January 28, 2019, beginning at 4:00pm.

Times, heights, and distances will count for state qualifying; however, an added event is not one that we normally contest at indoor meets. We will hold the Bruce Carlson Throwers' 4 x 100 Relay (limited only to athletes also entered in Shot Put). Bruce was a long-time throws coach at Polk County and passed away recently.

The purpose of the Reindeer Games is to help provide food for the needy over the holiday season. An "entry fee" of one (1) can of food per athlete (or $2) will be collected. Spectators will also be "charged" 2 cans of food for admission or $5. The food will be donated to the Thermal Belt Outreach Ministry. In past Reindeer Games, we have collected in excess of 3000 cans for distribution to those in need of assistance. This year, we will again recognize the school that provides the most cans with a special award.

In addition to the food drive "entry fee," there is also the team entry fee of $25 per school or $10 for an individual.  This fee will be due when you arrive for the meet.

While you are encouraged to wear your best holiday accessories, athletes will have to compete in legal uniforms.

The top 6 finishers in an event will receive commemorative ribbons.

WNC Polar Bear Championship medals will be awarded for 1st - 3rd place in each event.

The top 3 finishers in an event get a commemorative T-shirt.

The winning male and female teams will receive plaques.

There will be a limited number of T-shirts available for sale (M, L, XL), between $15 and $20.

We will use FAT; however, we will allow up to four (4) athletes per event and one (1) relay per team.

The deadline for entries is 5:00pm on Sunday, January 27, 2019, through MileSplit.

In addition to the entry fees, there will be a fee of $25 for teams added after this time.

A Hospitality Room will be available for the coaches and workers.
