Despite dominating some great teams all year, the Bruins of Blacksburg needed all the help they could get this time around at WakeMed in the NXN-SE Regional.
Coverage
This weekend was just the icing on the cake for the Albemarle senior and Rice University commit.
In his final high school XC race, Edison's Yared Mekonnen decided he wanted one more race.
Pine Crest freshman Tsion Yared nabbed one of the five individual qualifying spots at NXNSE to make it to Portland, Oregon and Nike Nationals. Her time of 17:42.40 was the third fastest of any Floridian this week behind only Foot Locker qualifiers Bailey Hertenstein (17:41.20) and Amanda Beach's 17:41.20. In case you were wondering her time would have placed 8th overall behind Hertenstein among all Foot Locker South entrants. We merged the results of all the races from FL South and NXNSE to see who won the week.

Only the Episcopal girls have advanced to Nike Cross Nationals, but that was before the days of the regional qualifiers. We went back and took the results dating back to 2007 to see who the top Florida programs at NXNSE were over that time. Our legacy scores form an "all star" team for each school and score each.
The Belen Jesuit boys won NXN Southeast in 2011, but they aren't the top team in our legacy team scores which takes all athletes from a given program and forms an "all star" squad. Trinity Prep, combining their top runners from both the 2011 team and 2015 team that finished as runner-up, edged out Belen by just 9 points. Columbus who also punched their tickets to Portland in 2010 rounded out the top three.
Sarah Bodmer is the top NC returner to NXN Southeast from last season, and hopes to advance to NXN this weekend.
David Melville and Ben Savino are the top two returners to NXN Southeast from NC. Both will be in contention for an individual bid to NXN!

Vote for the number of individuals you think will advance from Charlotte and head to San Diego for Foot Locker Nationals and the amount of individuals/teams you think will leave Cary, North Carolina en route to Portland, Oregon for NXN.
