At Polk County High, we are continuing to celebrate the holiday season with healthy competition, humor, and a focus on those who are less fortunate and struggling.
This year, we are again supporting the Nation in its hour of need. Many people are no longer employed, and they are in financial straits. We have decided to hold the Reindeer Games again to raise both awareness and help the needy. This meet will be held on Wednesday, December 17, beginning at 4:00pm.
Times, heights, and distances will count for state qualifying; however, some added events are not ones that we normally contest at indoor meets. There will be a Throwers 4 x 100 (limited only to throwers). Long jump and shot put will be contested as relays (adding together the 3 best efforts on each team and basing the score on the combined distances). We may invent others!
The purpose of the Reindeer Games is to help provide food for the needy over the holiday season. An entry fee of one (1) can of food per athlete (or $2) will be collected. Spectators will also be charged 1 can of food for admission or $5. The food will be turned over to the Thermal Belt Outreach Ministry. At the last Reindeer Games, we collected in excess of 1500 cans for distribution to those in need of assistance. This year, we will again recognize the school that provides the most cans with a special award.
Come and join in the Reindeer Games! Wear something to celebrate the season. The uniform rule will be somewhat relaxed. Wear antlers, a Santa hat, be an elf or be more creative. We do ask that you do not wear anything that could cause an injury or interference with another athlete. We will use FAT; however, we will allow up to five (5) athletes per event. The deadline for entries is Sunday, December 14, 2014. Entries will be submitted on MileSplit.
