Dejah Jones and the Wakefield 4x400 closed out a great day running on the banked track at Virginia Tech.

In girls' competition, it was pretty much the Wakefield show in Blacksburg this weekend. Tiana Patillo took advantage of a very fast pace in the top section of the 500, and she turned out a time of 1:13.87, US #2 and an all-time North Carolina record! For good measure, her teammate Tia Robinson ran 1:18.15, good enough to make top 10 in the state this season.

Shortly after that, Tyra Lea took center stage when she ran 38.98 for the 300, US #1 and NC #3 all time. Teammate Jemay Ward ran 40.26, NC #3 and US #13 this season.

Earlier in the day, Wakefield freshman Breanna Bygrave scored a stunning upset when she out-leaned Nora McKiver (TW Andrews) to win the 55 Hurdles. Both were credited with times of 8.11, which is US #8 and moves both girls into North Carolina's all-time top 10.

As you might expect, that kind of firepower leads to top-flight relays. Wakefield's girls cranked out a 1:39.44 for 4x200, and then finished the day with a 3:50.60 for the 4x400, both times US #2.

Knightdale produced two state-leading times running on the lightning-fast banked 200m track at the Armory. Their 1:30.06 in the 4x200 is currently US #5, and 3:20.58 in the 4x400 puts them at US #4.

Wesley Frazier (Ravenscroft) won the junior mile, competing against other high-schoolers and some college freshmen, posting a time of 4:48.94.
Ryen Frazier became the sixth North Carolina female to break 5 minutes for the mile or 1600, clocking 4:59.73 to finish fourth.
