The Ardrey Kell senior recovered from a rough middle of the cross country season to close out her career with PR's.
There was a point during this past school year when Kaitlyn didn't want me to post this interview. It was taken during cross country season, and she was struggling in comparison to her goals for herself. She was able to pull out some strong races at the end of the season, enough to lead her team to second place in the NCHSAA 4A state meet, and then a post-season diagnosis of anemia made it clear what the problem had been. She obviously recovered, because she put up PR's in both the 1600 (4:59.80) and 3200 (10:40.13) during the spring season. She has also been part of one of the closest, most supportive teams that I have observed this year, and had the chance to lead her teammates to success in both cross country and the 4x800 relay (which finished the season seventh on the North Carolina all-time top 25 list). Kaitlyn will continue her career at NC State, and I know she will be sorely missed by her younger teammates, although her example will live on through them.
