Sydney White: World Traveler.

Vaulting has been good to Sydney White.  She earned a trip to France last summer for the IAAF World Youth Games (for 16- and 17-year-olds), where she cleared 13' 1.5" (which was then a strong PR for her).  This past Sunday, she jumped 13' 3.5" at the USATF Junior National meet, placing second and booking herself a trip to Spain for the IAAF World Junior Championships (for under-20 competition, meaning many college freshmen are included in the competition).  Ironically, after all that travel, she will end up at Wake Forest University in the fall, only a few miles from her home in Kernersville, NC.

It was a busy weekend for the East Forsyth senior.  On Friday, she competed in the New Balance Outdoor Nationals, finishing third with a mark of 12' 6.5".  Then, she traveled to Bloomington, Indiana for USA Juniors, and vaulted again Sunday.  I'm sure it was all worth it, though, as a trip to Barcelona is a fabulous reward for her effort.  Already the best female vaulter in North Carolina history, she is the only one to go over 13 feet, something she has now done four times.
