Senior Spotlight: Aundrea Holmes

The Cary Christian senior has one state title this school year, and will be gunning for two more this weekend.

I recorded this interview at the NCISAA Cross Country State Championship, where Aundrea Holmes won the 2A individual title and led her school to the team title, their third in a row.  After a low-key winter season and a spring of frustration battling through injuries, she is healthy and gearing up for the attempt to add two more individual titles to her legacy before she moves on to Chapel Hill.  Despite having raced very little, Aundrea will be the top seed in the 1600; if she can even approach her PR's of 5:18.91 and 11:42.50, she will leave as a three-time champion.  In the interview, she talks about training with and competing against the boys on her team, which is a common experience for top-flight girls.  In Aundrea's case, though, she is actaully faster than most of the guys on her team, as well!  She also discusses her goals for this season and beyond.  Here's hoping that she still has enough time (and enough races) left in her track season to achieve those goals, which were delayed by her time off.  Also, I should point out that I mispronounced her name throughout the video; it's "Aun-dree-ah" not "Aun-dray-ah."  Sorry!
