Senior Spotlight: Gabrielle Gray

As the defending 4A champion in the 100 dash, High Point Central's Gabrielle Gray was certainly already in the conversation about the state's top sprinters.  Then, on a blisteringly hot day in Wichita for the USATF Junior Olympics, she unleashed an 11.63 time that put her into the top 10 returners in the country in that event.  She has followed up that success by having a tremendous indoor season, and she is definitely still in the conversation as we approach New Balance Indoor Nationals.  The only black spot on her season came at the worst possible time: a false start in the 55 finals at the 4A Indoor State Meet cost her the chance to run for the title.  Having gotten to know her a little bit this year, I am confident that Gabby is busy turning that negative into positive motivation, driving herself to greater success (as evidenced by her race at the Brooks PR Invitational).  Watch for her to continue to improve in the 100 this spring, and also to bring her 200 times around so that she becomes a more complete sprinter.  I can't help but feel that the South Carolina signee still has significant potential for future development, and it will be fun to watch that happen.
