When you first look at Chris Boyd, you might think that a sprinter with such long legs would have difficulty getting around the tight curves of a 200 meter indoor track. However, once the gun fires and he accelerates, you can tell that the 300 is just a natural fit for him. He can stay with any sprinter in the state over the first 150 of the race, and then that long stride simply takes over, giving him a surge to the finish that nobody in North Carolina has been able to match so far this year. Chris has run the 300 at five indoor meets since the new year began, winning four of them (his only loss came during a trip to Virginia), and he has the top indoor time in North Carolina going into the state meet. In the spring, Chris plans to focus on the 200 with some 400 work, and you can see how that stride will power him down the final stretch in both of those races. I caught up with him at the Eastern HS Challenge at UNC, and he was fun to interview, so check that out below.
