Berry Academy Makes NC History!

Note: facts in this article were researched through records kept at ncpreptrack.net, maintained by George Phillips.  UPDATE: after further research (including from a previously missing page) it turns out that T. W. Andrews won all four relays at the 1989 3A state meet.  I apologize for the error, and I hope it doesn't take away from the accomplishments of Berry Academy.

Berry Academy is the first 2A team, and the second team ever from any classification, to win all four!  The Cardinals made 2A state meet history, and they did it in impressive, dominating fashion.  Oh, and by the way, they also finished 1st in the long jump, 1st in the 400, 3rd in the 800, 1-3-4 in the 100, and 1-3-4 in the 200.  That really shows their conditioning and motivation, because that is a LOT of races for one day!  Take a look at the highlights of the relays in photo and video below:

4x800: 8:06.85, won by almost 10 seconds

Traevin Drayton-Ferguson, Larry Gibson, Juquan Dupree, Dominick Harris

4x200: 1:26.14, NC #2 this year, 2A meet record

Kedrick Davis, Terrence Winchester, Larry Gibson, Germone Hopper

4x100: 41.78, NC #3 this season, 2A meet record, won by a full second

Kedrick Davis, Cameron Hudson, Terrance Winchester, Germone Hopper

4x400: 3:24.37, won by only 0.02 seconds

Kenny Patterson, Traevin Drayton-Fergurson, Jaquan Dupree, Larry Gibson

Berry had a narrow lead at the first exchange.

Forest Hills had a tremendous second leg and led by 10 meters at the halfway point.

Berry's third leg pulled them back into the race, and the anchors were dead even at the bell.

After falling behind by 3-4 meters, Forest Hills anchor Brandon Glenn rallied to take the race to the wire.
