University 5000: Scott Morgan (Calvary Baptist) ran unattached and dropped a 14:38.68! That's good for third in the US right now!
Girls Invitational 3200: Wesley Frazier (Ravenscroft) led from the gun, crossing the 1600 with Sarah Rapp (Cardinal Gibbons) right on her shoulder. Frazier pulled away over the second mile to win in a US#1 time of 10:28.00, good for the national lead this season but short of her NC #2 all-time mark from the winter. Rapp gave one last hard charge at the finish to get within 3 seconds and drop a big PR of 10:31.84 (US #2, NC #6 all time). They were followed by two Virginia girls, and then came Margaret Leak (Mount Tabor) in 10:50.43 (NC #12 all-time). Right behind her were Olivia Enright (Green Hope), Shelby Howell (New Hanover), and Alison Smith (East Chapel Hill), all under 11 minutes and all making the NC top 25 all-time list!
Boys Invitational 3200: Thomas Graham (Cary Academy) and Ryan Walling (Green Hope) set the pace with a 69 first 400. By the mile mark, the group had begun to spread out, with Graham crossing a 4:32 and Will Bass (Northern Nash) right on his back. Graham was able to pull away in the last 800 to win in 9:07.17 (US #4, just short of his NC #8 all-time mark from the winter). While Chris Garrett (West Johnston) and Bobby Mintz (Cary Christian) came back to slip past Bass on the final straight. Garrett enters the NC all-time top 25 list at #23! Mitch Mallory (Wakefield) rounded out the top 5, while Walling ended up in 7th.
