Field Events - Top Performers
Dorian Dailey, Mallard Creek - He delivered a big-time performance in the long jump at the All American Track Classic, winning with a mark of 23-10.25 to move into the top spot in the state. The junior has won four of his five appearances in the event and will be chasing his first state championship next month.
Maddox Krotzer, South Garner - After being highlighted in last week's article, he raised the bar yet again - literally. The junior cleared 7-4.25 to improve upon his NC/US #1 mark in the high jump at the Wake County Championships. He now has five wins in the event this season and continues to separate himself on the national stage as one of the all-time greats in the high jump.
Madison Davis, Atkins - The junior had a breakout day on a national stage last week, finishing second in the discus at the Arcadia Invitational with a throw of 159-5. The mark ranks 1st in North Carolina and 7th in the US, adding to an already dominant season that included nine wins across the shot put and discus before her trip out West.
Clara Phelps, Davie County - The senior continued her perfect season in the pole vault, clearing a new personal best of 12-0 to win the All the Smoke Greyhound Invitational. She remains undefeated in the event and continues to build momentum since her win at adidas Track Nationals in March.

Distance Events - Top Performers
Joshua Cooper, Willow Spring - He cashed in a historic performance at the All American Track Classic last week, running 1:49 to win the 800m and claim both the NC #1 and US #1 marks in the event. The junior boasts one of the most impressive mid-distance resumes in the country, which will only get better over the next year and a half of racing.
Brooks Barbee, Christ School - It turned out to be one of the fastest days in high school distance running history at the Arcadia Invitational and the junior capitalized on the opportunity, finishing 5th in the 3,200m amidst a crowded field of some of the country's best runners, crossing the line in 8:40 - an All-Time NC #2 in the event and now only trailing former Christ School alumni, Rocky Hansen.
Rachel Riley, Mount Tabor - She was one of many athletes across the state who enjoyed career days at the All American Track Classic. The junior continued her strong season in the 800m, running 2:08 to win the event and set a NC #1 and US #15. The win is her fourth of the season, across four different events (200m, 400m, and 1,600m), putting her range on full display on the biggest stage.
Meredith Wildes, Apex Friendship - In one of the country's most unique and difficult events, the junior took down a loaded field in the 2K Steeplechase last Friday, running a 7:19 and setting a new NC #1 and US #7 in the event. She added a 10th-place finish in the All American Track Classic 1,600m a week later to continue her strong stretch of racing.
Colby McCollum, Cuthbertson - She came through with a strong day in the 3,200m at the All American Track Classic, placing second in 10:47. The distance standout also ran 4:53 to finish seventh in the 1,600m at the Texas Relays a week prior and continues to carry her momentum from a third-place finish at the cross country state meet into the spring season.
