Using last year's rankings and looking at who's coming back, the Chapel Hill girls are at the top. However, look for both Cardinal Gibbons and Weddington to try and change that outcome. Chapel Hill has 6 girls coming back who broke 21:00. Most of the girls have no outdoor track times which makes it difficult to make too many guesses. One thing you can count on is that Coach Olsen will have his girls ready to run when it counts.
Weddington is a consistent team and they have 6 girls coming back who cracked 21:00 last year. That gives the potential for some very solid break throughs this XC season. Another team to watch is Cardinal Gibbons. With Sarah Rapp and Samiiyah Wilson both coming back they are going to be very good up front. They saw improvement from their #4 returning girl as she broke 12:00 during track.

Based on this past track season, Sarah Rapp of Cardinal Gibbons must be the favorite coming into the season. She threw down some very solid times during outdoor track, 5:02 & 10:56. Erin McGuirk of Northern Guilford is another top runner to look out for. Most of the list you see below should be near the top once again. One name I'd like to throw in the mix for the upcoming season is Kierston Ellsworth of West Henderson. She really stepped it up during the track season and could be a surprise runner near the top during XC.
The Chapel Hill boys should be the best team in the state of North Carolina this coming season. Kind of like the girls, the guys had a few runners put down some solid track times, but many of their top names from XC were missing. However, with 5 of the top 8 guys returning for XC this year in the 3A competition, things look very good for Chapel Hill. The bad news for everyone else, Olsen always finds new talent and Olsen always finds a way for his kids to improve.
So, after Chapel Hill, Marvin Ridge has a very solid team and are led by the #1 returning runner, Chris Colo. They have 4 guys with PR's 17:10 or better and a 5th at 17:38. Nash Central will be led by Will Bass and Tevin Richardson but will be looking for some help after that.

On the individual front, I know Chris Colo had a stellar XC season last year, but some guys made huge improvement during the track season and should give Chris a run for his money this year. Colo is a tough XC runner, but will be challenged by Graham Crawford of Williams, Will Bass of Nash Central, Tommy Shotzinger of Cardinal Gibbons, Will Bunch of Chapel Hill, & Braedon Koerwitz of Jay Robinson.
