Team: Girls - *Cummings; Boys - *Asheville

Girls 4x800 - Marvin Ridge, 10:04.57
Cardinal Gibbons took early lead but didn't appear to run their top girls. No Wilson or Rapp. With 500 to go in the first leg, Matson from Weddington made a big move & went from last to 1st in 50m. Marvin Ridge and Weddington broke away from the rest in the 2nd leg and were nearly even going into leg 3. Buckley from Marvin Ridge broke the race apart in 3rd leg, running a 2:27. In the 4th leg, both MR & Weddington appeared to settle in their positions of 1st & 2nd with the race for 3rd-5th tight still.
1. Marvin Ridge 10:04.57
2. Weddington 10:17.53
3. Gray Stone 10:26.13
4. North Buncombe 10:27.29
5. NCSSM 10:32.58

*Boys 4x800 - Eastern Alamance, 8:15.51
Eastern Alamance took the lead at the start, followed by Hendersonville & then the rest of the teams in a pack. Nash Central made up a lot of ground & pulled ahead of Eastern Alamance in the 2nd leg. These 2 teams went back & forth with the lead a few times. In 3rd leg, Eastern Alamance pulled ahead, with Nash Central in 2nd & Union Pines in 3rd. Jake got the baton with a good lead & could conserve for later races. Marvin Ridge & Charlotte Catholic made up a lot of ground late in the race. Both were in the last 3-4 positions in the middle of the race and moved up to 3rd & 4th.
1. Eastern Alamance 8:15.51
2. Nash Central 8:27.01
3. Marvin Ridge 8:31.88
4. Charlotte Catholic 8:36.05
5. Hendersonville 8:38.04

Girls 55mH - Erin Tucker, JM Robinson, 8.28 (US #19)

Boys 55mH - David Shaw, St. Pauls, 7.78

*Girls 55m - Erin Tucker, JM Robinson, 7.19

*Boys 55m - Tori Tillman, Marvin Ridge, 6.54

*Girls 1600m - Sarah Rapp, Cardinal Gibbons, 5:19.31

In a strategic move, the top 6 girls in the 1600 didn’t run the 4x800, with those who did looking flat. With a 45 minute turnaround, it’s a difficult double (I know, tell that to Rapp who won two events & was 2nd in another!).  Rapp led from the gun with Wilson, Hobbs, Stern, McGuirk in that pack with a 15m gap to Matson. It stayed that way for 600m, when Rapp and Hobbs surged ahead, creating a significant gap.

1.       Rapp 5:19.34
2.       Hobbs 5:21.10
3.       Stern 5:33.23
4.       Wilson 5:33.81
5.       McGuirk 5:36

Boys 1600m - Isaac Presson, Asheville, 4:17.96 (NC #1)
Wolfe took the early lead with Presson, Crawford and others in tow. Jake started the race, but fell back quickly and it was clear he was going to drop out. There was a large lead pack at the 800 led by Presson, going through in 2:10. Presson made a major move with 600m to go and in just 200m he gapped the rest by 5 seconds! Presson never looked back and won by 10 seconds.

1.       Presson 4:17.96
2.       Crawford 4:27.54
3.       Wolfe 4:28.65
4.       Sullivan 4:28.7
5.       Vance

*Girls 1000m - Destine' Kirkman, Harding University, 3:08.66
There was very little movement in the 1000m. The race quickly lined up single file and remained that way most of the way. Kirkman, Rapp and Kapheim were each a stride apart with a very slight gap on rest. Sheilds made a great move to get into 3rd late in the race but Kapheim passed her back in the homestretch.

1.       Kirkman 3:08.66
2.       Rapp 3:10.11
3.       Kapheim 3:11.16
4.       Sheilds 3:11.75
5.       Vezolles 3:12.79

Boys 1000m - Isaac Presson, Asheville, 2:35.61

Presson led the pack early and went through the 400m in 1:04. He took off at that point. Colven made a decisive move with 300m to go and got into 2nd place.

1.       Presson 2:35.61
2.       Colven 2:38.78
3.       Richards 2:41.17
4.       Tritt 2:41.81

*Girls 300m - Brianna Morrison, Weddington, 41.26

*Girls 3200m - Sarah Rapp, Cardinal Gibbons, 11:39.15

A group of 4 consisting of Rapp, Esplin, Dougherty & McGuirk developed an early lead. Matson & Hillard followed closely behind. At the mile mark, Rapp, Esplin and Dougherty picked it up a bit and created a gap on the rest with Rapp dictating the pace.

1.       Rapp 11:39.11
2.       Dougherty 11:50.42
3.       Esplin 11:51.86
4.       McGuirk 12:20
5.       Hillard 12:23

*Boys 3200m - Jake Hurysz, Eastern Alamance, 9:10.96 (New State Meet Record)
Jake took a decisive lead in the first 100m but at 600m, Presson, McGee, Colo and Bass reeled him back in. Jake took off at 1200m and came through the mile at 4:38. At 2000m, Crawford moved into 5th after moving up through the pack for awhile. With 1000m to go, Presson gapped McGee and McGee developed a comfortable lead on Bass. There were no changes in the top 5 for the last 1000m.

1.       Jake 9:10.96
2.       Presson 9:24.08
