Will Cuicchi after 1000m meet record and runner-up 1600m finish
Seaforth boys won their first NCHSAA track or cross country state championship on Friday led by four different individual state champions. The Hawks scored 62 points to win the team title by 25 points over Farmville Central.
The day would get off to a rocky start with a fall from Jack Anstrom in the 1600m where he'd fade from a battle for 1st place to 8th and scoring 7 points. He'd be able to bounce back later in the meet to win the 3200m running 9:33 pulling away over the final 1000m.
Sebastian Calderon stepped up for the Hawks in the 500m running a new personal best of 1:06.63 out of heat 2 of 3 to score a big unexpected 10 points for his team. Calderon set nearly a two second PR with his fastest mark being 1:08.51 heading into the meet.
Will Cuicchi would double back from a runner-up finish in the 1600m, with less than 30 minutes in between the 1600m and 1000m, to run a NCHSAA 1A/2A Meet Record of 2:29.76 winning by nearly 10 seconds.
Ryan Yoder would jump a new personal best in 14-7 to win the Pole Vault clearing 13-6, 14-0 and 14-7 each on his first attempt.
Asher Aldridge would score 3 points individually finishing 6th in the 55m Hurdles and Samuel Neil would score two points in the 3200m running 10:04.37 as a freshman. They'd also finish as state runner-up in the 4x400m to close out the event running a season best of 3:32.02.
