New Bern's Fuquwan Greene and Miles Sparks both competed in the Boys 300m dash at the New Balance meet in NY City. Greene, one of the nation's top 100 & 200m runners proved he's no slouch as he moves up in distance. Greene dropped a 33.84 which was good for 3rd place overall. His time makes him the fastest 300m runner in North Carolina history, surpassing J-Mee Samuals of Mount Tabor. Samuels went on to have a solid collegiate career at Arkansas and has qualified for the Olympic Trials, too.
Sparks also had a great race and the 300m is more his style as he does the 300m hurdles outdoors. Sparks clocked a very fine time of 35.38 which moves him into 7th in NC this season.
Myers Park's Becca Deloache is obviously gearing up for another spectacular outdoor season. She burst on the scene last year and ran 2:11 for 800m. She clocked a 2:57 in January at the Durham Striders Invitational and now has a very fast 600m PR as well. Deloache finished in 2nd place to Phyllis Francis of NY who has an 800 PR of 2:04 and has already run 2:12 this indoor season. Becca's time of 1:32.64 is #2 in the nation now behind Phyllis.
