Christ School Dominates at Penn Relays in DMR

Christ School fought through the pouring rain and an elite field to take home the Penn Relays Distance Medley Relay championship. The NCISAA squad which consisted of Rocky Hansen, Dawson Reeves, Kahzi Sealey, and Brendan Regan took to the track Friday looking to become the 19th team in U.S. history to dip under the 10:00 barrier. The Distance Medley Relay, commonly referred to as DMR, has four legs, all of which run a difference distance: 1,200m-400-800m-1,600m.

Reeves, fresh off his win at the Carolina Distance Carnival in the mile, lead off for the Greenies with the 1,200m leg. Reeves holds personal bests of 1:52.83 in the 800m and 4:11.32 in the 1,600m. During the indoor season, he clocked 2:33.96 in the 1,000m. He gave Regan the baton with the lead, after covering the 3-laps in 3:04.93. However, Christian Brothers (NJ) was right on their tail.

Regan was responsible for the 400m leg and absolutely stepped up his game on the biggest stage. He has an open 400m best of 52.11, but his official relay split was 51.01. He passed off to Sealey still in the lead.

Sealey has had a break-out season which has seen him clock 1:56.87 for the 800m and 4:20.96 for the mile.

Still in a battle with Christian Brothers (NJ), Sealey ran 1:56.58 and handed off to anchor leg Rocky Hansen neck and neck with the competition.

Hansen battled through the weather and pushed every step of the way. He went out with a hard pace and did not look back. He crossed the line after putting over 15-seconds between himself and the field.

Not only did they get the taste of victory, they ran the second fastest time in Penn Relays DMR history, 9:58.15. North Carolina No. 2 all-time, and U.S. No. 13 all-time. Hansen's split? 4:05.65. His anchor split took the Greenies within .38 of the Penn Relays record. Hansen's performance earned his the HSB Athlete of the Meet for Relays.
