Hannah Grace Resets State Pole Vault Record, Clears 13-9

UPDATE (4/21/23 @ 3:45pm): Less than 24 hours later, Hannah Grace cleared 13-9 at the Raven Relays to reset the record, again! Now U.S. sophomore No. 7 all-time!

We have another state record on our hands!

Thursday, at the New Hanover County Championships, Coastal Christian's Hannah Grace put on a show for all those in attendance. Grace, only a sophomore, took home wins in the long jump and triple jump, on top of a 3rd place finish in the 100m dash.

It was the pole vault, however, that everyone had eyes on.

Grace cleared 13-6 at the Cary Academy Home Meet #1 on March 29th to break the previous state record of 13-5. But even Grace knew she had plenty more in the tank for the rest of the season.

With all eyes on her, she set the bar at 13-7.25, and she nailed it. A new state record, and U.S. Sophomore No. 9 all-time!

Flashback to 2022 outdoor season, where she won the NCISAA Division II pole vault state title, and went on to win the AAU Junior Olympic Games in the same event. Her 2022 best was 12-5.5 from AAU Nationals. She also won the NCISAA Division II triple jump state title.

She opened her 2023 indoor season with a 12-0 victory. From there she kept climbing. 12-6, 12-10, and then finishing off her indoor season with a 13-2.5 clearance at adidas Track Nationals to take 3rd.

She opened her outdoor season with back-to-back 12-6 jumps, but finally broke through with her previously mentioned 13-6 clearance.
