WATCH: Antwan Hughes Jr. Ties State Record In 55m Dash

Parkland Magnet IB (NC) junior Antwan Hughes Jr. made his trip to the NCHSAA 4A Indoor State Track and Field Championship worthwhile.

He took home the NCHSAA 4A state title in the 55m dash. But he went even beyond that. He clocked 6.19, which is a new state meet record, and ties the NC No. 1 mark of all-time. His time ties Trentavious Friday's (Cherryville) mark from 2014. His time is also good for US No. 9 all-time and US No. 1 this season.

Hughes Jr. came into the day with a personal best of 6.29, which was NC No. 19 all-time and US No. 3 on the season.
