Stella Kermes Named 2022 NC XC Gatorade Player of the Year


Cuthbertson junior and NCHSAA 4A cross country state champion Stella Kermes has been named the 2022 Gatorade North Carolina Cross Country "Player of the Year."

Kermes clocked 17:40.94 to win the NCHSAA 4A cross country state title back on November 5th at Ivey Redmon in Kernersville. She led the Cavaliers to their fifth consecutive NCHSAA cross country team title. She was named MileSplit NC First Team All-State, as well.

During her junior season she also won the Friday Night Lights XC Festival, Union County Championships, and Southern Carolina Conference Championships.

She had a season best of 17:22.50 from Union County Championships, which is North Carolina No. 11 all-time. Kermes also ran 16:09 for the 3-mile run at the 41st Annual Woodbridge Cross Country Classic. It was Kermes' only 3-mile race of her career.

Kermes is also the defending NCHSAA 4A Indoor 1,000m state champion. 

The Gatorade Boys XC "Player of the Year" award is announced on 2/15.
