Future Stars: Cary Academy's Kavi Gibson

Cary Academy freshman Kavi Gibson broke out into superstardom during the TISAC Conference Championship on October 20th at WakeMed Soccer Park. He took home the win in NC Frosh No. 1 and U.S. Frosh No. 18 15:39.70.

His performance is NC Frosh No. 3 all-time. Ironically, it is not a class record for Cary Academy, as Thomas Graham (C/O 2012) is NC Frosh No. 2 all-time, but his 2008 performance is only two-seconds ahead of Gibson.

Gibson is no stranger to the spotlight. As an 8th grader, he placed 3rd at the NCISAA 2A State XC Championships running for Carolina Friends School. He later placed 5th in the 3,200m at the NCISAA DIII State Championship.

He holds bests on the track of 4:29.84 (1,500m), 9:41 (3,000m), and 10:44 (3,200m).

This season, Gibson was runner-up at WNC Cross Country Carnival, 15th at Greensboro XC Invitational, and 7th at Hagan Stone XC Classic, before capturing the TISAC Conference title.

On Friday, Gibson lines up next to his Cary Academy teammates, ready to chase the NCISAA 4A title for the first time. There is some serious competition in the field, but that will only make for better racing.
