NCHSAA XC State Meet Qualifying: What You Need To Know

(1) Qualifiers to State: The top twenty-five percent (25%) of teams, or top four teams, whichever is greater, in each classification from each regional will qualify for the state meet. The 25% of teams are teams that show up to the starting line, not just register for the meet.

        Example:

                27 teams competing in regional meet x .25 = 6.75 = 7 teams advancing to state meet25 teams competing in regional meet x .25 = 6.25 = 6 teams advancing to state meet

(2) Team scores will be based on a schools five best performers

(3) Number of qualifying teams from each region will be determined by the number of full teams(5 or more athletes) on the starting line

(4) In addition, the top seven individuals not on a qualifying team will advance from each regional to the state.

Example: If Team A does not make the state meet as a team, but qualifies (at least) five individual runners, they will be scored as a team at the state meet.

(4) A school that qualifies a team may bring any seven eligible competitors to the state meet; however, there may be no substitutes among those who qualify as individuals.

(5) Advancement is automatic, there is no need to re-register for the state meet.
