Cary's Marco Evans stepped up to the competition this weekend at Friday Night Lights. The senior took down some of the biggest names in North Carolina and earned himself his first large invitational victory in cross country and ran NC No. 3 15:31.10.
In the spring, Evans turned into one of the top middle-distance runners in the state. He ran 4:19.11 over 1,600m, and he place 6th in the event at the NCHSAA 4A State Championship. He also ran 1:57.40 in the 800m. He did not run a 3,200m during indoor and outdoor season.
Evans' old cross country personal best came from the 2021 NCHSAA 4A Mideast Regional, where he ran 16:44. During the 2021 season, he was 73rd at the state meet.
Now, Evans is a senior and he is ready to give it everything he has this season as he looks to climb the rankings and compete for a state title in November.
