Charlotte Christian Welcomes Two Elite Sophomores

Charlotte Christian has emerged as a powerhouse in the track and field community in recent years. And that powerhouse is only getting stronger in 2022-23.

Evan Boykin (C/O 2025) and Nina Dominique (C/O 2025) will both be attending and competing for Charlotte Christian according to Program Director Ralph Jones.

Boykin is the AAU 15-16 age group 200m national champion after defending his home turf clocking a personal best of 21.54. That time is freshman class U.S. No. 6 on the season, and he ran it into a -1.3 headwind. He also finished 3rd in the 100m at AAU Nationals running a freshman U.S. No. 3 10.57.

His performances are North Carolina freshman No. 4 (100m) and No. 6 (200m) all-time.

As a team, Charlotte Christian finished 5th at last year's NCISAA Division I Outdoor State Championship. They return defending 100m and 200m state champion Kyron Jones and 2021 NCHSAA 1A 100m state champion Armonte Ferguson. Also returning for the squad on the boys' side is thrower Johnathan Montgomery, who was 9th in discus and 12th in shot put.

If you take Jones' and Ferguson's 100m personal bests, add their returning No. 3 Bryce Young's best of 11.71, and then add in Boykin's best time, they are projecting as the No. 1 4x100m in the entire state next season.

Nina Dominique is just as big of a pickup for the program, and she is going to be added to a team that did not have any individual sprint qualifiers at last year's state championship. They return two 300mH state qualifiers, along with a deep roster in the field events.

As a team, the ladies finished 13th at the state championship. Dominique was runner-up in the Freshman 100m final at adidas Outdoor Nationals. She was also 4th in the 200m and 5th in the 100m at the NCHSAA 4A Outdoor State Championship. Indoors, she was 3rd in the 55m at the NCHSAA 4A Indoor State Championship.

Dominique's best in the 100m (11.62) and 200m (23.94) are North Carolina freshman No. 2 and No. 3 all-time marks, respectively. In the 100m, she is U.S. freshman No. 42 all-time.
