Grace Hanson and Kaitlyn Obremski Dominate Their Openers

Weddington Home Meet #1 Photos

Heading into Labor Day Weekend, two established stars are wasting no time getting back into the groove of cross country.

Thursday was host to both Weddington's home opener and Laney's home opener.

At Weddington, they ran at the school course alongside East Mecklenburg, Piedmont, Porter Ridge, and Sun Valley.

Grace Hanson did not compete last weekend at the Providence XC Invitational alongside her time, so I was intrigued to see where she opened her season and in what kind of shape she was in. She proved she was ready to rock-n-roll, dropping a NC No. 1 18:28.30 to take home the win by over 50 seconds.

On the other side of the state in Wilmington, Laney hosted Ashley, Hoggard, New Hanover, North Brunswick, South Brunswick, West Brunswick, Topsail, West Carteret, White Oak as they ran at Olsen Park.

Kaitlyn Obremski had competed in four 3,000m's this pre-season, topping off at 10:44.39, but she was ready to make the transition to the 5,000m. She was pushed by Hoggard's Ashlei Summers, but Obremski pulled away and ran a NC No. 3 18:39.85.

Although I'm sure Hanson and Obremski will beat their times from Thursday later on this season, it is a great sign to see two of #TeamNC's best start their seasons off hot.
