Christ School junior and new North Carolina 1-mile and 2-mile state record holder Rocky Hansen was named the 2022 Gatorade Boys North Carolina Track and Field Player of the Year.
Hansen was nearly untouchable on the track this season. He broke into superstardom at the Carolina Distance Carnival, where he smashed his previous 1,600m personal best to run 4:02. That time was just a sign of bigger things to come from Hansen.
He went on to run 4:00.76 for the full 1-mile run, which set the North Carolina state record, previously held by Craig Engels. Hansen wasn't done with just the one record, as he smashed the 2-mile state record, running 8:46.97.

During state championship season Hansen helped lead his team to a runner-up finish at the NCISAA DI State Championship. Hansen left it all on the track, taking home wins in the 800m, 1,600m, and 3,200m, along with anchoring his team's school record 4x800m relay.

The girl's Gatorade Track and Field Player of the Year Award is announced tomorrow, 6/30/22.
