There goes those Lady Cavs!
Cuthbertson made the trip up to Penn Relays to compete in the High School Girls' 4x800m Championship of America. They cruised to a 9:19 in the prelims to win their heat and qualify for the finals. They had the third fastest seed time headed into the finals.
They switched up their order this time, but it did not throw these athletes off their game. Stella Kermes opened it up in 2:16.46 and was in 3rd place alongside Edwin Allen (Jamaica) and Union Catholic (NJ). She had to sidestep two runners that collided and went down right in front of her with 150m to go.
Justine Preisano took the baton for the second leg and held her position and posted a 2:19.24 split. She handed off to her sister, Alyssa Preisano, and she took off with the field.
Edwin Allen really pulled away this leg thanks to a 2:11.96 split by Rushana Dwyer.
Backed by a 2:17.73 split by Alyssa, the Cavaliers moved into 2nd place headed into anchor leg.
Charlotte Bell held onto anchor duties Friday afternoon and she did not disappoint. The sophomore tried to catch Edwin Allen's anchor Jessica McLean but fell did not have enough time. She ran a huge personal best of 2:11.24. McLean closed in 2:12.62.
They finished 2nd overall, and the top American team posting a time of 9:04.67. Their time is a new NC No. 1 and US No. 2.
