Highland Tech's Lauren Tolbert took runner-up and ran a new state record of 2:08.70 in the indoor 800m at Nike Indoor Nationals Saturday afternoon. Tolbert smashes the old record of 2:11.21 by nearly three seconds.
From the gun Tolbert and Michah Trusty (PA) went straight to the front. She came through 200m in 30.02 running neck and neck with Trusty. Her 400m split was 1:02.33 and she was right the heels of the leader Trusty. She hit bell lap at 1:35.66 and closed in 33.03 to set the new state record of 2:08.70!
Tolbert currently sits NC No. 3 all-time in the outdoor 800m after her 2:07.77 in 2021.
