Jacob Laney Sets North Carolina Indoor Mile State Record!

Hear from Jacob Laney after capturing the NCHSAA 4A Indoor 1,600m state title.

Porter Ridge junior Jacob Laney will return from Boston as the new North Carolina state record holder for the indoor mile after his 4:07.34 performance at the BU Last Chance Meet!

His time shatters the previous record of 4:11.57, ran by Cameron Ponder in 2018.

Not only is it an indoor state record, it is the fastest time by a North Carolina junior indoors or outdoors. Only three boys have gone faster in the mile, and they all did it outdoors. With his junior outdoor season on the horizon, Laney has the chance to solidify himself as one of the best the state has ever seen.

He now sits US No. 8 this season in the event as well.

Laney is fresh off capturing the NCHSAA 4A Indoor 1,600m and 3,200m state titles while being named meet MVP.
