POLL: North Carolina Girls Performer of the Week 2/7-2/13

Hear from Stella Kermes after her NC No. 3 all-time 1,000m run.

Mary Bonner Dalton - Myers Park

The sophomore took home the win in the 4A 3,200m, clocking a NC Sophomore Indoors No. 2 all-time 10:49. She finished runner-up in the 1,600m clocking a new NC sophomore class record 4:53.30. Her time is also overall NC No. 4 all-time. Her 1,600m time is US Sophomore Indoors No. 14 all-time.

Akala Garrett - Harding

It was a busy day for the Harding junior. She started her day off on the right foot with a new US No. 1 time in the 4A 55mH finals: 7.88. After some down time, Garrett was back on the track for the 500m. She shot out like a rocket and never looked back. She took her second win of the day in 1:14.37. There was little time in between the 500m and 300m, but Garrett stayed ready. She finished runner up in the 300m dash.

Maddie Huecker - Lake Norman

Huecker was the winner of an all-time great 1,600m race. The senior ran a NC No. 3 all-time 4:53.08 and lead five other girls under the old state meet record.

Shawnti Jackson - Wakefield

All eyes were on Jackson in the 55m and 300m dash. In both events she shot out of the blocks and never looked back. She took home victories in both events.

Sanu Jallow - West Mecklenburg

Jallow was everywhere this weekend! She started her day with a victory in the 3A 55m dash. She had some down time before the deadly 500m-1000m-300m triple. Those three events were back-to-back-to-back, and at the state meet, the time in between events was very limited. She took home her second victory of the day in the 500m, battled hard for 5th in the 1,000m, and then bounced back for 4th in the 300m. Jallow was the only runner for West Mecklenburg, and she lead them to 5th as a team.

Stella Kermes - Cuthbertson

The sophomore ran a NC No. 3 all-time 2:54.76 in the 4A 1,000m run to capture the win. Her time is good for US Sophomore No. 37 all-time. She also took 5th in the 1,600m run, clocking NC No. 13 all-time 4:56.71.

Tamesia Pinnix - Cummings

The senior took home two wins on Friday. One in the 1A/2A triple jump, jumping a personal best of 37-5, and the other in the 55mH finals where she ran 8.15. She finished runner-up in the long jump as well, jumping 17-5.

Hannah Rae Shaffer - Cardinal Gibbons

The freshman set two class record this weekend in the 1,000m and 1,600m runs. She took home 3rd in the 1,600m clocking 4:54.08. Her time is also US Freshman No. 6 all-time indoors! Shortly after in the 1,000m she placed 2nd running 2:55.79, another NC freshman class record!

Navaya Zales - Croatan

The senior dominated the distance events, winning the 3A 1,000m and 1,600m, and finished runner-up in the 3,200m. She broke the 5:00 barrier in the 1,600m for the first time, clocking 4:59.99. Her time is good for a new 3A state meet record. With little time between the 1,600m and 1,000m Zales had to be on her A-game, and she was. She ran 3:05.77 to secure her second win of the day.
