NCHSAA State Meet Records Fall This Weekend

New 3A State Meet Records

Dudley senior Isaiah Monroe has really established himself as one of the elite sprinters we have in North Carolina over the past year. He backed it up this weekend in the 300m, clocking a new personal best, NC No. 7 all-time, and state meet record 34.22.

It was a small but mighty field in the girls 1,600m. From the gun Navaya Zales (Croatan) and Caroline Murrell (Northwood) took the lead and did not hold back. Zales got the best of Murrell this time around and finally dipped under the 5:00 barrier! Zales clocked 4:59.99 to set a new 3A state meet record! Murrell was runner-up in 5:01.48. Zales went on to win the state meet MVP.

Murrell got her revenge in the 3,200m against Zales, however.

The two battled again but this time Murrell started to pull away over the last half of the race. She held on for the win and set a 3A state meet record of 10:46.69!
