Week 2 Highlights: Early Bird, March Madness, & Rainouts

Sections vs Events:

This tweet speaks for itself.

Combine these 5 jumpers with Jordan Stromquist of Green Hill and Section 3 Currently take up 6 of the top 7 spots in the event across all classifications.

On the flipside of Division I Large, the rankings out of Section 4 currently have 0 boys clearing a bar in the pole vault and only 2 girls.

Now it's always been the case in Small Division I that the qualifiers for state are the Top 2 from East, Middle, West + 2 At Large Selections and I'm curious what the appetite would be with the new classification cycle if we did Top 3 from each Section 1-4 and then next best 4 for large? I personally would like to add another layer to qualifying after sectionals by matching up Section 1 vs 2 and Section 3 vs 4 and taking top 4 from those meets to state but I know that would never happen.

Nevertheless, while the above events and their performances are tied to specific sections some events entirely are vastly underperforming so far this year. In the boys triple jump, in any given year we can expect to have 20 guys over 44 feet. Right now we have 1, Jaden Keller of Tennessee High School, no one else over 43 and only thirteen over 40'.  While some events seem to have flourished with time off, other events that require technical mechanics and extreme attention to detail seem to have suffered. This might be an "old takes exposed" situation in a couple of weeks but most athletes don't find 4 more feet in a season. I'll be happy to be proven wrong.
