The #23 Team on our Girls' Pre-Season XC Team Countdown are the Jaguars of Carrboro! Graduation is taking a big hit on this Carrboro squad that is coming off back-to-back NCHSAA 2A XC State Championships! The defending champs had four All-State XC runners last season, and two of them are coming back! However, those are the only two runners from their championship squad that are returning. Hannah Preisser and Madeline Ramsden are going to lead this new-look Jaguar squad back to the State Meet to defend their title!
Preisser won the 2018 XC State Championship as a freshman, taking down North Lincoln's Angie Allen. Preisser was 8th in last season's XC State Championship coming in as Carrboro's #2 runner behind graduated senior Louise Lounes. She also won the 3200m at both the Outdoor 2A and Indoor 1A/2A State Championship in 2019!
Ramsden was 10th in the 1600m at the 2020 Indoor 1A/2A State Meet and 9th in the 3200m at the 2019 2A State Meet.
Rising senior Hayley Guerry was a member of the 2018 Championship team but was did not run on the 2019 team. Guerry has the 3rd best returning time on this squad and her experience will make her a serious contender to be All-State in XC with Preisser and Ramsden. Kate Chenet and Rachel Buck are likely going to be the 4-5 runners for this team and will be key to their quest of a three-peat. Chenet ran 5:54 in the 1600m during Indoor Season so she would have been well on her way to a fantastic outdoor season.
Carrboro comes in as the #22 team on the returning rankings overall and tied for #1 in 2A. The #25, #24, and now #23 teams have all come from NCHSAA 2A. If we're lucky enough to get a State Meet this fall the Girls' 2A Race could be one of the tightest and most competitive in recent memory.
