Millbrook is the only school in the state with three returners who have already gotten under 16:00, as well as having two Top-10 runners in William Mitchell and Joshua Navarro. Cardinal Gibbons and Broughton both have two Top-20 overall returners, including Broughton's Dylan Core being #1. However, the issue for both teams comes in their depth. It is hard to predict year-to-year growth without seeing outdoor track performances, but both of those schools have great- year-to-year improvement. Chapel Hill is at the head of 3A spearheaded by Ben Hawley. Hoggard might be the deepest team in the state. They have no Top-20 returners but still fall 3rd on the list and very high on the overall team rankings. When runners have this long of a layoff time, they can either take advantage of the situation to keep getting better, or will fall behind their peers. We can only hope we get an XC season so that we can see for ourselves who really are the best in the state.
