Mason Ellis Launches 62-4 Shot Put For NC State Record

Mason Ellis (West Forsyth) has taken down the North Carolina Indoor State Record previously held by Jon Beyle (East Chapel Hill) who threw for 61-10 in 2013 at the 4A State Championship.

In November of the 2018-2019 indoor season Ellis threw a massive PR of 60-3.5, a throw to put him at NC#4 All-Time Indoors.  Until yesterday that would stand as his overall PR with a 60-0.25 coming for the 4A Indoor State Title later in the season.

Ellis had steadily been improving meet by meet thus far in the 2019 season.  He started off a 53-5 climbing his way up to 56 feet, 58 feet and 59 feet respectively over his first 5 meet.

Coming into yesterday JDL Dual Team Challenge, Ellis sat at NC#2 with his 59-1.75 behind 4A rival Davin Vann (Cary) who threw 59-9 a week ago.

Continuing his hot streak, the West Forsyth senior had the best throw of his life so far with a 2 foot PR to land a 62-4 throw.

Ellis' mark is good for a new NC#1, US#3 and beats Jon Beyle's previous indoor state record by 6 inches!

Ellis has committed to throw at Wake Forest next year.  His mark is good for NC#5 All-Time Indoors or Outdoors with Dennis Barron holding the overall record of 63-6.5 set in 1982.  Their is more than a good chance Ellis challenges that mark before his high school career comes to a close.
