Defending NCHSAA 3A 55m Dash State Champion Jaylen Wright of Southern Durham opened his junior season with a monster performance in the 55m Dash. Wright clocked a blistering 6.29 to run the fastest time in the country by a tenth of a second this indoor season.
He kicked off the day right where he left off in the 2019 indoor season. He ran a big PR to win his first ever state title over a loaded 3A field. His time was already good for a US#1 mark beating out Javonte' Harding who ran 6.39 a week ago at CNU.
With a ton of confidence Wright ran a blistering 6.29 in the finals beating a good field by .2 seconds. His mark would be good for US#4 at the conclusion of the 2019 season.

Wright emerged at the indoor state meet last year, but his outdoor season came to a halt early on due to injury. He's come into the 2019-2020 indoor season in tremendous form and the sky seems to be the limit for his track success as the season gets going in the new year.
His mark is currently tied for NC#14 All-Time indoors, and it's only December. The state record is 6.19 from Trentavis Friday set in 2014.
