Former Mansfield Christian Middle School athlete, Brienne Trumpower is taking the Junior High School Division's 1 Mile national title home to Ohio following her 5:04.89 first place showing on Friday at New Balance Nationals.
Trumpower, who is likely headed to Ontario High School in Mansfield for her freshman year, exceeded her own expectations. She shared with MileSplit that she was hoping for a top six finish, as she figured she'd need to adjust to the 1 Mile race distance, which she had not contested before.
Her debut in the event could not have gone better, as she outpaced a strong field to finish three seconds ahead of runner-up Lynlee Johnson (East Yancey, NC / 5:07.81).
