Anna Cockrell (Providence Day, USC) is your NCAA Champion in the 400m Hurdles! Cockrell took home the gold over Gabby Scott (Colorado) running a season-best of 55.2 over Scott's 56.04. Cockrell's overall PR comes from her freshman year where she ran 55.14.
Cockrell had been the NCAA Runner-Up as a freshman in 2017 and sophomore in 2018 having victory just out of reach two years in a row. Cockrell would not be denied a third time.
From the gun, it was clear her plan was going to attack the first few hurdles getting out hard and closing down the stagger early in the race. From there she stayed even with Brittley Humphrey (LSU) til the final 100 meters where she would pull ahead of the field through the line.
Cockrell also brought home a fifth-place finish in the 100m Hurdles earlier in the meet running 12.80 (+0.6).
Only a junior, the North Carolina 300m and 400m Hurdle State Record holder will have another year of NCAA eligibility where she can defend her title and contest for a 100m Hurdle title.
